Press Release

Saddam Hussein and a case in the US

Roma, 22 November 2006: Some time ago in 2005 I was served with a civil action in the United States District Court regarding actions against Saddam Hussein under US legislation.

Today via DHL I have been served an order by the United States District Court of Columbia in Civil Case No: 04-1862 (EGS) pursuant to Rule 4(f)(3) od the FRCP. All of that is not really a problem. However, let it be known that to date Saddam Hussein has NOT been allowed even a millisecond alone with his lawyers in two criminal actions against him when technically he faced capital punishment or at least a life sentence.

However, there is an old legal saying in Baghdad that if you put the devil on a camel he will ride himself to hell. What do I mean by that? The Order served upon me eminates from the US District Court of Columbia and signed by District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan. In order for this to be effective the compliance rules must be those of the United States District Court. I will be seeking an order from the Court to (a) consult with Saddam Hussein and Tariq Aziz in private within sight but out of hearing of correctional officers in Baghdad and (b) stay any technical capital punishment until the conclusion of this civil case and another that has been initiated. I shall be asking the US Supreme Court to accept jurisdiction and order the United States Military to ensure that Saddam Hussein comes to no harm and no capital punishment executed until the conclusion of these proceedings.
