CIA intercepted letter Fidel Castro sent to Khrushchev

Roma/London, 14 January 2008: Giovanni Di Stefano released the translation of a letter Cuban President sent to Russian President Khrushchev on 26 October 1962.

"The CIA had intensive interception of all forms of communication between the two Communist Countries and spent millions of dollars, not always authorised by Congress," said Di Stefano. " It goes to show the lengths that the Americans were prepared to go simply to have a tactical advantage over the Russians which has not abated."

Di Stefano said the Bay of Pigs incident ensured that the US would never invade and occupy Cuba when President Kennedy signed a pact with Russia undertaking no military operations in Cuba if the Russian missiles were not delivered.

"Documents exist to show that the missiles never existed, the Cubans and the Russians manufactured a situation to place the fooled Americans into the pact not to invade Cuba. Both Castro and Khrushchev laughed all the way as to how gullible the Americans were," stated Di Stefano.
